Of the romanic cathedral there are ruins in the South wall
of the claustro, specially next to the old 'Room to Capitulate'
in which the gothic tomb rests and policromo of San Pedro de
Osma protected by dragoons. The silense influence is obvious
in the burgense romanesque.
The plant and rise of the Gothic Cathedral is typical of the
abbatial art cisterciense. It is 71.80 metres long by 41.89
metres of cruise and 19.80 metres heigh in it biggest nave.
The construction foremen were inspired in the monasteries of
Santa Maria de Huertas and Huelgas, as well as in the cathedrals
of Cuenca, Sigüenza and Burgos. The tower, burgense emblem,
it is barroca, it is 72 metres heigh and it was finished towards
1767. The main door it has renaissance additions.
Cloister is of delayed gothic and around him are the different
rooms of Cathedral museum in that documents are exposed, choir
books, orfebrería, altarpieces..., etc, of the cathedral
and the essential province soriana. It is indispensable to visit
it.
In the cathedral is necessary to pay attention specially in
the Romanesque-gothic stature of the virgin of the hawthorn,
patron of the place; the románica stature of Santo Christ
of the Miracles; the impressive greater altarpiece of Juan de
Juni and Picardo, who also worked possibly in altarpiece; in
the Renaissance perron of the chapel of San Pedro of Osma, and
in neoclassic the greater Chapel (where one keeps Devout from
Osma, dated in 1086) and Chapel of Palafox or the Immaculate
one, in its composition and decoration, as also it seems to
have a alchemist symbolism in the outside and interior estatuaria
of the gothic cathedral, according to the experts.
